LiveDrive Review: When Unlimited Isn’t Enough

Storage is big. It seems to be, at least.

I was just checking out my options when I came across Livedrive which is presently in its “Beta Launch” stage and is all set to walk with its head held high. Online back-up is serious business these days and it needs someone who knows whatever the heck that needs to be done behind that neat, user-friendly, simple click interface.

I think it is too early to make any sort of sweeping judgments and rave about it just as yet, but it does seem to be in capable hands of Andrew Michael, who first started fasthosts.co.uk and has spent a lot of time in the halls of the technology Industry. According to his blog entry 2 years in the making, livedrive is here!, he does speak about himself and how livedrive came to be.

I liked it when I saw it. I ddi go ahead and sign-up for an account and one thing I liked about it is that you get your own portal like http://ashwin.livedrive.com( which incidentally, is mine). You can use this portal for allowing anyone in the world to share your music, photos, videos or files.

This portal is instantly created for you when you sign up and all you have to do is upload files into your account ( back-end). There are even more options, though:

1. Create an L drive: By down-loading a piece of software, you will be able  create this extra drive on your ” My Computer” thing called as L: drive which can be used as a location to store your files. This automatically creates back-up for you.

2. Support for Multiple computers/Laptops/Devices: If you have more than one PC or laptops and see that you constantly have to juggle between different systems ( perhaps one at home and one at office) all you have to do is to download that software onto each of these systems( one time) and  the back up is instantly reflected off on all systems stimultaneously.

The rest of the stuff is common and expected of any back-up service. So far, the service seems to be terrific and has no flawswhatsoever. The only thing I got frustrated about is the fact that I couldn’t download that software properly the first time.

It was more a problem with my internet connection than anything else I suppose.
